Conference Report: Alternative Routes: The Spreading of Liturgical Chant in Post-Carolingian Europe (ca. 900–1100)
The conference Alternative Routes: The Spreading of Liturgical Chant in Post-Carolingian Europe (ca. 900–1100) took place on January 12–13, 2026 in Cremona, hosted by the Department of Musicology and Cultural Heritage.
Over two days, scholars from across Europe discussed the transmission of liturgical chant in the post-Carolingian period, with a focus on transregional cultural exchange, scribal mobility, and alternative routes of dissemination. The combination of in-person and online participation fostered lively discussion and productive exchanges.
We warmly thank the Department of Musicology and Cultural Heritage, and especially its staff, for their generous hosting and excellent organizational support. We are also grateful to all speakers and participants for their contributions, which opened new perspectives for the next phases of the SCRIBEMUS project.
