The two-day conference Alternative Routes: Spreading of Liturgical Chant in Post-Carolingian Europe (ca. 900–1100) will take place on January 12–13, 2026 in Cremona at the Department of Musicology and Cultural Heritage. This event marks the midpoint of the ERC-funded project SCRIBEMUS and focuses on the dissemination of liturgical chant, transregional cultural exchange, and scribal mobility in early medieval Europe.

Call for Papers: Alternative Routes. The Spread of Liturgical Chant in post-Carolingian Europe (900–1100)

The SCRIBEMUS team invites submissions for the interdisciplinary conference Alternative Routes. The Spread of Liturgical Chant in post-Carolingian Europe (900–1100), to be held in Cremona on January 12–13, 2026. This event marks the midpoint of the ERC-funded project SCRIBEMUS. The conference focuses on the dissemination of liturgical chant during the early Middle Ages, with special attention to the transregional networks through which notational systems, liturgy, and chant practices were transmitted.
